My Story

Matteo Rabatin attended the University of Pittsburgh where he earned a dual BA in French and Italian, followed by a MA in Italian language and literature. After studying abroad in Florence and Milan, Matt pursued a career in teaching Italian language and culture. Since 2007 he has taught beginner, intermediate, and conversational Italian at Pitt, UT Austin, and in Rome. He is currently finishing his Ph.D. in Italian Studies at the University of Texas specializing in literary and cinematic treatments of the Italian Resistance. His other academic interests include Sicilian literature, French romanticism, and gender studies.

When not studying or teaching, Matt can be found enjoying Austin’s dynamic music scene. An admirer of all things Italian, Matt is excited to join the talented and energetic team of instructors at the Freestyle Language Center.
