Diarios de motocicleta, 2004. Based on Ernesto “Che” Guevara’s self-authored memoirs, Diarios de motocicleta recounts Guevara’s 1952 trip across South America with his friend Alberto Granado. Students will discuss the film’s historical and culturally relevant material through carefully curated vocabulary modules: the life and death of Che Guevara; Francisco Pizarro and the conquest of Perú; Cuzco (Qosqo) Perú; Che Guevara’s diary; land and revolution; and national vs global politics. The following grammar presentations will aid students in expressing their ideas, opinions, and reactions to Diarios de motocicleta: the present and past subjunctive mood; preterite vs imperfect; por vs para; compound past tenses; hypothetical “if” clauses; and connectors.
